Sprint Cup testing at Daytona begins

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Twenty-five teams are at Daytona International Speedway for the first session of NASCAR Sprint Cup testing.

The teams are using the same wing-restrictor plate combination that was used at Talladega Superspeedway in October. The rear wing angle will be 10 degrees, and the holes in the restrictor plate are 31/32nds of an inch in diameter. The wicker bill on the wing is 1 inch.

In a late change to the driver lineup, Kirk Shelmerdine is replacing Scott Wimmer in the No. 33 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet for the test session. The No. 33 is a fourth RCR car.

Aric Almirola is driving the No. 1 Dale Earnhardt Inc. car normally driven by Martin Truex Jr.

Truex Jr. is expected to test the car Tuesday and Wednesday.

Half of the Cup teams are testing today through Wednesday, while the other half will test Jan. 14-16.
