Team Rensi Motorsports officials are expected to announce sponsorship for its No. 35 Ford driven by Bobby Hamilton Jr. soon, assuring Hamilton Jr. a ride in the NASCAR Nationwide Series in 2008.

The sponsorship, according to a source, is from Eckrich Meats.

Team Rensi, which fielded two cars in the 2007 Busch Series season, has yet to find sponsorship for its No. 25 Ford. The team was forced to lay off 18 employees before the season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Hamilton Jr. had also started the process of looking for a ride for 2008, landing a Busch East Series seat with Sadler Brothers Racing.

"I was looking out for me," Hamilton Jr. said. "I needed a job. I did what I needed to do. I'd rather have entirely too many races than none at all. It worked out the way it needed to."

Still, the veteran driver said he was worried.

"I got up that morning and went down to a local team," Hamilton Jr. said of the Sadler Brothers. "They were talking about doing some Busch East races, some ARCA races. That's what I was going to do for next year. I walked out of the shop, and [Team Rensi] called. Now I was like, 'Oh, man, how am I going to pull this off?'"

Team Rensi's sponsorship, which is slated to be announced any day, is for 30 of the 35 Nationwide races next year. The Busch East schedule is 13 races, and Hamilton Jr. said he'll try to run as many of those events as he can.

"We can use it a lot to learn for our Nationwide Series car," Hamilton Jr. said. "We can do a lot of testing and transfer notes back and forth."
