BRISTOL, Tenn. - Bill Davis Racing has secured its Nextel Cup future with Toyota as manufacturer and Jeremy Mayfield and Dave Blaney as drivers, and now the team is working on fielding a car in the NASCAR Busch Series.
Davis said Friday he'd like to field two cars in Busch but is currently in discussions with a sponsor for one Camry in 2007. "We have got some Busch discussions going on," Davis said. "We would like to do that, if the right possibility presents itself."
Who would drive the car is unclear, depending on what the potential sponsor wants. Davis said Mayfield and Blaney could split time in a car, or the two could share a seat with a younger driver.
"The Busch Series landscape has changed," Davis said. "It's a different series than it was back when we were active in it and winning a lot of races. There are different formulas to success in the Busch Series now. It's really what you're looking for, what the sponsor is looking for."
Davis stopped fielding Busch cars in 2004 but has 11 victories as an owner, the last in 2003 with Scott Wimmer. Mark Martin and Jeff Gordon also won in Davis' Busch cars.
- Mentioned Drivers:
- Dave Blaney
