McFarland injured in Busch race

Monday, June 26, 2006

JR Motorsports Busch Series driver Mark McFarland suffered strained muscles in a late crash in Saturday's AT&T 250 at the Milwaukee Mile.

McFarland was running sixth after the last caution when the Kevin Harvick and J.J. Yeley, racing for second, made contact and set off a chain-reaction crash that included McFarland's No. 88 Chevrolet.

At the infield care center, McFarland was determined to have strained muscles in his right shoulder. He was released and traveled back to North Carolina with his Dale Earnhardt Jr.-owned race team.

"There was nowhere to go," he said. "I thought I had it cleared, but a car came up and hit me, and then I got tagged by a couple more."

McFarland said his shoulder was sore, but that nothing was broken.

"I'll just try to take it easy for the next few days," he said.

The Busch Series races in the Winn-Dixie 250 at Daytona International Speedway Friday night.
