Penske studying window net problem

Friday, April 28, 2006

Penske Racing South crew members are intent on making sure that a window net problem never costs one of their drivers points again.

At Phoenix, Nextel Cup contender Kurt Busch's window net came loose, and he lost laps pitting to fix it. NASCAR requires window nets be secure anytime a driver is on the track.

"I don't know if we'll ever know exactly what happened, but we're doing everything possible to make sure it never happens again," Penske Racing South shop foreman Gary Brooks said. "It could have just vibrated loose. It was a brand new car and maybe just had some 'bugaboos' about it. The bad thing was that Kurt got black-flagged, and the deal cost us about 10 spots at the finish. It'll all be checked out from top to bottom."
