PPI Motorsports officials say Gary Putnam will take over as crew chief of the No. 32 Chevrolet driven by Travis Kvapil in NASCAR's Nextel Cup Series.
Putnam, who was the team's competition director, will immediately assume the duties of James Ince. Officials say Ince, who also served as team manager, has been released to pursue other opportunities.
Kvapil is in 41st place in the driver standings, meaning he has to qualify on speed for each race, and he has missed two of the season's first six races.
