“T. Taylor” has given all of us a great legacy
I am fully aware that most of you never knew Thomas Taylor Warren, who died at 83 years old just a couple of days ago, and certainly you never met him. To all of us in the media, he was known simply as “T. Taylor.”
It appears, for some NASCAR teams, an experiment has failed
It seems that what was once heralded as a potential opportunity for NASCAR to expand its international presence has failed.
What lies ahead for Kyle Petty?
In a recent published report, Patti Petty, Kyle’s wife, bluntly said that Petty Enterprises “hasn’t wanted Kyle in the car the last three years. They want a young driver, a 30-year-old, a 20-year-old.”
The old and new have flaws, but numbers don’t lie
The argument over which NASCAR system of determining its champion is superior - the points method of the past or the Chase that exists today - is ongoing and won't go away any time soon.
Like it or not, the Chase is here - to stay
When the Chase For The Sprint Cup was announced, I was among many who felt the sanctioning body had taken leave of its senses.
A rivalry that may cool down - unfortunately
I hope that Kyle Busch and Carl Edwards go at it again.
New dates mean new opportunities
The way I see it, Atlanta Motor Speedway and Auto Club Speedway now have opportunities.
Busch, others have an edge for the Chase
After Kyle Busch finished 15th at Indianapolis and 36th at Pocono and came to Watkins Glen with a real chance to finish out of the top 10 in three consecutive races for the second time this season, rumblings in the garage were that the dominant driver of 2008 was beginning to wither.
Is this a title season for Edwards?
After Carl Edwards won the race at Pocono, his team owner, Jack Roush, declared his driver was ready to win a Sprint Cup championship.
Indy: A few more observations
You don't have to be told again what a debacle the Allstate 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway was.
Mayfield’s chances are slim, not impossible
Jeremy Mayfield has made it clear he’s hoping for another chance to compete on the Sprint Cup circuit. He said that with the proper team and equipment, he can return to competitive form.
Slumping economy is a vicious cycle
To tell you that we’re in the midst of a slumping economy, higher gas prices and a stock market that’s been falling like a rock would not be news.
An unfortunate development for Franchitti
When Chip Ganassi Racing announced that it was shutting down its No. 40 team because of a lack of sponsorship, it meant - at least to me - that a noted driver who had committed himself to NASCAR had been robbed of his opportunity.
Yates rises above expectations
In sports, there are always individuals or teams that accomplish more than expected of them.
Junior on target for one goal
When it comes to Dale Earnhardt Jr., there’s more than one way to judge his season to date.
NASCAR's tolerance appears to have reached an end
I think that when it comes to the new Sprint Cup car, NASCAR has made it abundantly clear it will not tolerate anything remotely close to, shall we say, cheating.
The 600 was better than many expected
There were plenty of folks who speculated that the Coca-Cola 600 could be a boring race.
Wheeler a consultant? Could be
When H.A. "Humpy" Wheeler announced his retirement as president and general manager of Lowe’s Motor Speedway and president of Speedway Motorsports Inc., he made it clear he would no longer have anything to do with either entity.
Maybe the 600 won't be eventful
My buddy and colleague Bob Pockrass made many very good points when he said in his blog that the Coca-Cola 600 may not be as an uneventful race as the all-star race this past weekend.
Childress worthy of hall of fame
While I am among many who are so pleased that Richard Childress was inducted into the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame on May 15, there was a time it seemed more likely he would be ushered into bankruptcy court.
