Short tracks offer fun fan experience
Mar
24
Short tracks offer some of the best racing in the sport, so it’s with a heightened level of anticipation that everyone turns their attention to Martinsville Speedway this weekend.
First, the Craftsman Truck Series is competing at the track, which generally offers one of the most hotly-contested and aggressive races in that series each season. Drivers can bump and bang throughout the race, often without any serious consequences.
In the Sprint Cup ranks, the race is viewed as both a break from the 1.5- and 2-mile tracks that have caused headaches for many of the teams trying to get a handle on the new car this season and a somewhat nerve-racking endeavor of its own.
For fans, it’s a chance to see the kind of racing where the field is close together, where turns leave everyone bumping off one another and where cars often spin and then recover.
This is the type of racing many fans prefer – the kind where cars can make contact and recover, where drivers have to find the balance in being aggressive and losing control.
So, for the second straight race, fans will get a glimpse of racing the way it should be – close and tight with a little aggression and a lot of control needed.
