Roush Fenway a probable threat
Feb
22
At Daytona International Speedway, all the headlines went to the Joe Gibbs Racing and Hendrick Motorsports drivers – until Penske Racing won the Daytona 500.
Look for another team to be taking charge this weekend: Roush Fenway Racing.
The Ford team is always strong on the 1.5- and 2-mile tracks, and this weekend should be no different. While the group didn’t top the speed charts for the overall sessions at either track, the drivers were consistently fast throughout the tests. They know how to drive California, they seem to have NASCAR’s new model under control now and the group is hungry for a win.
Matt Kenseth has won the season’s second race (dating back to when it was held at Rockingham) four of the last six years. Carl Edwards seems to have a handle on this car and other competitors say he could make it do what he wanted in the test. Greg Biffle and his team were stout at Daytona. Any of these three could easily be a factor this weekend.
So watch out for Roush Fenway at California. This weekend, it could replace Penske as the headline-stealing team.
