Ragan on the rise
May
12
This season has offered an interesting shift in NASCAR as some new names have taken over the headlines. While Kyle Busch and Carl Edwards have gained notice for their wins and Denny Hamlin for his recent surge in the standings, one other young driver has quietly been moving up the standings and letting his racing speak for him.
Roush Fenway Racing’s David Ragan has smoothly transitioned from inexperienced rookie to top-notch contender. Week to week he has shown increased consistency and a continued willingness to learn about the tracks on the schedule.
That has made him a surprising entrant into the top 12 in the NASCAR Sprint Cup standings. Under the tutelage of veteran crew chief Jimmy Fennig, Ragan has shown the ability to both stay out of trouble and to make the right moves. He has top-five finishes in two of the last three races, a performance that has vaulted him to 12th in the standings.
Watch for more from this unheralded 22-year-old. He’s clearly a driver on top of his game right now.
