Pressure not evident among Chase teams
Sep
7
RICHMOND, Va. – If pressure is mounting on teams in the hours before the Chase For The Sprint Cup field is set, it certainly wasn't showing Sunday morning at Richmond International Raceway.
The teams of Roush Fenway Racing's David Ragan and Richard Childress Racing's Clint Bowyer are parked next to one another in the garage, a constant reminder of who the top competition is for that final championship spot. Bowyer is 12th in the standings, 17 ahead of Ragan, as the final pre-Chase race approaches.
Just a few hours from now, the Chase field will be set. Barring a catastrophic failure by someone else, one of these teams will be heading home knowing there will be no shot at the championship this year.
But Sunday morning, the crews looked relaxed and at ease. They checked out their cars, then hung out in front of their trucks. Walking by, they didn't look worried or concerned. Instead, some were laughing as they chatted.
To the fans milling about, it looked like this could be any race day.
The pressure may be mounting, but it isn't showing on the faces of these teams.
