Cream rises to the top in this Chase
Sep
15
After weeks of predictions and mathematical analysis, the Chase For The Sprint Cup finally started. And it showed one thing - that the 12 drivers in that field are clearly on top of their games.
Nine of the top 12 finishers at New Hampshire Motor Speedway Sunday were Chase contenders. Two of the Chasers, Matt Kenseth and Kyle Busch, were involved in crashes, and the other, Jeff Gordon, finished 14th.
The Chase is clearly off to a strong start. Roush Fenway Racing's Greg Biffle made the first strike, overcoming Jimmie Johnson to earn his first win of the season and move up six spots to third in the standings. That, combined with Busch's struggles, led to quite a bit of turnover at the top.
Roush Fenway Racing's Carl Edwards took the points lead by virtue of his performance and his six wins this season, the tiebreaker that gives him the edge over Hendrick Motorsports' Jimmie Johnson. Both have 5,220 points this season.
Busch lost the most ground in the race, plummeting seven spots to eighth in the standings.
Now, it's time for Week 2. What will happen? Who will take the points lead? And will the majority of the top spots be taken by championship contenders?
Only time will tell. So far, the Chase is turning out to be everything it was billed to be.

Sep 16, 2008 at 7:45 AMGood Grief Don! What are you on or are you just an idiot? NO driver would purposely put himself in that situation regardless of the situation.
