Could Ragan pull off Chase spot?

Aug 4
Could David Ragan be the stunner of the season?

The Roush Fenway Racing driver is on a tear this season. With five races to go before the Chase For The NASCAR Sprint Cup field is set, he's two spots and 46 points out of a spot in the championship-determining field. Ragan and crew chief Jimmy Fennig, a man known for boosting young drivers' performance in the series, have put together an increasingly competitive season. And while they've had their share of setbacks, they appear to be stepping up when it matters the most.

Ragan has three top-10 finishes in the last four races and a worst finish of 14th in that stretch. He earned his second top-five in that stretch this weekend at Pocono Raceway in a performance that cut that deficit.

As he looks over the next five races, Ragan sees a run that will end with Richmond, the site of his best performance last season.

Can he make the Chase? Certainly there's some stout competition in his path.

But Ragan has put himself in the running this year - and made it known that he is on track to become one of the series' elite in years to come.

David who? Sorry - for whatever reason he's kind of under the radar. But Clint Bowyer raced his way in last year so maybe.

I think between 11th and 14th have a chance of making the Chase. We all know anything can happen. Ragan is very talented and the media is just now starting to acknowledge him for his talent. He does not have a big mouth and is quiet. That tells me to watch out for him! With Jimmy Finnig mentoring him, I believe he will make the Chase.

I hope he makes it and Denny Hamlin doesn't.
