Burnout competition a grand concept
May
17
CONCORD, N.C. – Before the actual racing starts tonight, fans will get a real treat. Of all the stunts that have been witnessed at Lowe’s
Motor Speedway over the years – and the list is rather long – tonight’s burnout competition could be the best yet.
The winner’s celebration has become a huge part of NASCAR racing over the years. It’s an area where drivers excel, where they make an additional mark. From Kyle Busch rising from the smoke as it pours over his car, giving the appearance the car is still in motion, to Carl Edwards back-flip to Tony Stewart’s fence climbing, the postrace antics have taken on heightened exposure in NASCAR.
Tonight, Busch, Greg Biffle, Kevin Harvick, Jimmie Johnson and Clint Bowyer showcase their smoky talents in a regulated showdown. The five drivers will have to do two 360-degree spins and then drive into a mock victory lane on the frontstretch. Drivers will not be allowed to go onto the apron on the frontstretch nor the grass. The quickest driver wins a $10,000 donation to his favorite charity.
More importantly, he earns a unique brand of bragging rights – and might even gain a few more fans. It’s certain the other four will endure a little smack talk from their fellow drivers in the Cup garage.
So fans will be pouring into their seats a little early, waiting to see the first victory celebration to come before a race is run.
What a great idea.
