Roush Fenway's actions speak louder than words
Mar
13
I find it only slightly hypocritical that the folks at Roush Fenway Racing made as much noise as a jet engine last weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway – but they didn’t appeal the Carl Edwards’ penalty.
Team owner Jack Roush, Edwards and anybody who spoke on behalf of the team stood up and proclaimed that what happened in Vegas should stay in Vegas. No, they said, we weren’t cheating. And anyone who accuses us of cheating is just dead wrong.
Roush even went on to compare Toyota’s Lee White, a former colleague who more or less said the Roush Fenway team did it on purpose, to an ankle-biting chihuahua.
I would assume that Roush meant White was a guy who talked a lot but had little bite.
Kind of like Roush now, isn’t it? He nipped at NASCAR’s heels all weekend, and then doesn’t take a bite of the appeals process.
The team said simple negligence usually isn’t grounds for a successful appeal. And simple negligence, it said, was why a bolt on Edwards’ oil tank cover came loose during the race in Vegas.
OK, fine, but did Roush Fenway notice the appeals of very similar penalties handed down to some Nationwide Series teams? One was completely overturned. Others were altered. And the argument was often simple negligence.
But, no, Roush Fenway didn’t appeal. I think that barks volumes.

Mar 14, 2008 at 10:04 AMWhat a dumb article. How can anyone say or think why someone doesn't do something. NASCAR has had it in for Roush since He started anyways. As for Dale Jr.smarting off all He has todo is look at is His own cheating team and an old Driver who has to crash people out to win. Elliott Sadler's comments are realy a joke coming from a Guy who can't drive without crashing or hitting someone. Sadler should join Jarrett, call Michael Waltrip,Mark Martin,Kyle Petty and a few other washed up racers and start a golf league.

Mar 15, 2008 at 11:10 AMYou don't make an appeal you have no chance of winning. Personally, I think they made it as loose as they thought they could get away with. Oops! Too loose. Parts will fail during a race, but this part failing if properly secured is highly unlikely. The explanation given was a joke. They were warned, they pushed, they got caught. Lee White's comments were unnecessary and over the line. Roush's response was more to White's remarks than the reality. Roush doesn't cheat. He has people to do that for him. He needs deniability. He has it. Screwed up. Got caught. Got slapped. It's another day in NASCAR. If you aren't pushing the limits, you aren't racing. Carl is a great racer. Roush Fenway is a great race team. They'll be up front because they want it and will work for it and push as far as they think thay can. This is just another spin in the life of a real race team.
