Numbers speak for Kyle Busch's NASCAR success
Apr
28
Kyle Busch is only 22 years old, but already his NASCAR career is breaking records. And there’s no telling what numbers he’ll post before he’s through.
Busch turns 23 this Friday, and there’s little doubt he’ll have a happy birthday. After all, no one in the history of the sport has as many Cup wins as Busch at age 23. Combined.
Say what? Busch has six Cup victories in his career already. No one, not Richard Petty, not David Pearson, not Dale Earnhardt, not Jeff Gordon, had that many.
In fact, only five drivers in the history of NASCAR had won before they turned 23: Petty (two), Bobby Hillin Jr. (one), Donald Thomas (one), Fireball Roberts (one) and Jeff Gordon (one).
Add those up, and you have six. Just to make sure I have your attention, think about that. In the nearly 60 years of NASCAR, 12 races have been won by drivers under the age of 23. And six of them have been by Kyle Busch.
Yes, Busch has as many victories by age 23 as every other driver in the history of the sport. Incredible.
And it’s not just the Cup series, either. Check out these numbers from the other two NASCAR national series for wins by age 23:
Nationwide: Kyle Busch 14, Rob Moroso six, Elliott Sadler four, Jeff Gordon three, Brian Vickers three, Reed Sorenson three, Casey Atwood two, Stephen Leicht one. That’s Kyle Busch 14, everyone else 22.
Craftsman Truck Series: Kyle Busch eight, Kurt Busch four, Jon Wood two, Brandon Whitt one, Ricky Hendrick one. That’s Kyle Busch eight, everyone else eight.
All three series combined: Kyle Busch 28, Moroso six, Kurt Busch four, Sadler four, Gordon four, Vickers three, Sorenson three, Petty two, Atwood two, Wood two, Roberts one, Thomas one, Hillin Jr. one, Whitt one, Hendrick one, Leicht one. That’s Kyle Busch 28, everyone else 36.
Amazing. We all knew Busch was an extraordinary talent. Now we have the numbers to prove it.
Somewhere, I wonder if Rick Hendrick has second thoughts about letting him go.

Busch is a great talent-Hope he doesn,t hurt someone. At the ripe old age of 22 he has 4 yrs. in nascar already. don,t know if he could do this for Hendrick- Notice how toyota came up with all the horsepower in the off season.Last year they couldn,t compete.Money buys speed.

May 5, 2008 at 11:33 AMI hope that Kyle doesn't win the championship. He is too arrogant & immature. He needs an attitude adjustment. PJRIECK
