No runaway battle, please
Feb
13
The championship battle in the Nationwide Series this season could be one of the tightest, closest title fights in series history. It could bring back memories of the 2003 season, where Brian Vickers edged David Green by 14 points as four drivers were eligible for the championship entering the final race.
Clint Bowyer and Carl Edwards are the favorites, as the two former Chase For The Nextel Cup drivers are with excellent teams. But they aren't alone. David Reutimann was as good as Edwards down the stretch last year, and his team should be even better this year. David Ragan drives for the same team as Edwards, Roush Fenway Racing, and it may be time for team owner Jack Roush to loosen the reigns on the younger driver.
And don't forget about Jason Leffler. He was the top non-Cup driver last year, and Braun Racing should be improved, too.
Can we see five drivers close together by the race at Homestead in November? I sure hope so. It makes for a much more interesting season than what happened the last two years.
You know, the two biggest championship points margins in history? Kevin Harvick over Edwards in 2006 and Edwards over Reutimann last year. Chances are good we won't see a runaway this year. Thank goodness.
