Mid-season NASCAR awards
Jul
2
We’re at the unofficial halfway point of the season, so it’s time to hand out some awards for the three NASCAR national series.
Driver of the half-year:
Sprint Cup Series: Kyle Busch. Hard to argue against him, as he’s won five times and is the points leader.
Nationwide Series: Tony Stewart. Let’s see, five wins in seven starts? Yeah, he’s good.
Craftsman Truck Series: Ron Hornaday Jr. Could he repeat as champion?
Surprise of the half-year:
Sprint Cup Series: Kasey Kahne. Who would have thought he’d have two wins at this point?
Nationwide Series: Brad Keselowski. It won’t be long before you hear his name in rumors about a Cup ride.
Craftsman Truck Series: Matt Crafton. Scored his first win and is second in points.
Disappointment of the half-year:
Sprint Cup Series: Jeff Gordon. There’s no way he should have zero victories through the first 17 races.
Nationwide Series: NASCAR. Where are the rules changes that will help the series long term?
Craftsman Truck Series: Brendan Gaughan. Hard to believe he hasn’t won in almost five years.
And don’t forget about:
Sprint Cup Series: Jimmie Johnson. The guy hasn’t won two consecutive titles without doing something right.
Nationwide Series; Joey Logano. He’ll win at least five more races this year. You watch.
Craftsman Truck Series: Kyle Busch. I know, how could you forget him? But I had to include his name a second time for his stellar season so far.
