I don't want to believe
Sep

The truth, they say, is out there. For some conspiracy theorists, it’s WAY out there.
So on the even of the final regular race before the Chase For The NASCAR Sprint Cup begins, I’ll offer some conspiracy theories for you. Trust no one, but you’ll want to believe.
Tony Stewart makes a charge during the Chase, taking the points lead before the final race at Homestead-Miami Speedway. But on the last lap of the Ford 400, Stewart crashes in Turn 4, giving the title to someone else. Theory: Stewart loves Chevrolet so much that he wrecked on purpose, denying Toyota a championship.
Stewart makes a charge during the Chase, taking the points lead before the final race at Homestead-Miami Speedway. He hangs on to win his third title. Theory: NASCAR wanted Toyota to win a championship, giving the Camrys more horsepower for the Chase.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. wins the championship. No more details are needed. Theory: NASCAR loves Junior and Hendrick Motorsports, allowing the No. 88 to run a bigger engine, better brakes, smaller wing, etc.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. loses the championship. Theory: NASCAR doesn’t want to appear to be favoring Junior, so it makes the team bolt 500 pounds of extra weight on the car for every Chase race.
Jeff Gordon gets on a roll in the Chase, winning five races and running away with the title. Theory: See Dale Jr. Theory No. 1. You know, Hendrick and all.
Jimmie Johnson beats Kyle Busch and Carl Edwards for the championship, his third in a row. Theory: NASCAR is on an “old-school” kick this year and wanted Cale Yarborough’s name mentioned as much as possible. Since Cale was the last guy to win three titles in a row, it made sense to allow Johnson to tie his record.
Carl Edwards edges Busch in a down-to-the-wire battle for the title. Theory: NASCAR loves backflips.
I could go on and on, but what’s the point?
It’s probably harder to think up ridiculous conspiracy theories than it is to actually make one happen.

Sep 4, 2008 at 11:09 AMWill there be a conspiracy before the Chase? No Dodges would not be a good thing. I would not be surprised if something whacky happened to Ragan and Bowyer that allowed Kasey to sneak in.

Sep 4, 2008 at 6:22 PMClint Bowyer will NOT make the Chase. Theory: A ninja will take out one of the #07 team's tire-changers before the race, steal his uniform, & take his place in the pit stall. At the 1st pit-stop, the imposter-ninja-tire-changer will put one of those skinny bicycle spare-tires like you have in the trunk of your car on the left-rear before vanishing into thin air. This of course, will all have been ordered by mob-boss Darrel Waltrip as revenge for Bowyer's gossip-mouthed whining about his little bro.

Sep 6, 2008 at 7:54 PMWouldn't surprise me if NASCAR makes a controversial call or something like a caution for phantom debris that shakes up the final field. NASCAR has a major credibility problem.

Sep 6, 2008 at 9:14 PMI agree with Del. The "debris" caution will be called so the final field will be set-up their way.
