Dale Earnhardt Jr. fans rally for charity
Sep
25
With apologies – and thanks – to Sports Illustrated, we noticed some true signs of the apocalypse recently. And they are online, of course.
The economy is struggling, those who know a thing or two about the financial status of our country will tell you, and people are finding it more and more difficult to make things work for their families.
It’s even noticeable in the Charlotte area where worries over gasoline shortages have produced long lines – and empty pumps.
In NASCAR, teams are finding it harder to get sponsors for 2009, especially in the Nationwide and truck series. Heck, the truck series doesn’t even have a sponsor for next year.
But that doesn’t stop some Dale Earnhardt Jr. fans. Now through O ct. 3, Wrangler and Earnhardt Jr. have teamed up to offer three items for bid on eBay. One is a ride around Lowe’s Motor Speedway with Dale Jr., another is a pair of jeans – Wrangler, of course – worn by Dale Jr., and the third is a door panel off a Dale Jr. car.
It’s a fine idea, for the money goes to the Victory Junction Gang Camp.
But here comes the scary part: the current bid for the ride is $10,000, for the jeans, $1,025, and for the door panel, $1,463.
Yeah, our economy is in a slump. But if you want a pair of jeans, they go for more than a G.
