Nationwide Series seems to be a hit in Montreal
MONTREAL - A few observations while I sit in the centre media at the track located on L'île Notre-Dame:
Older crowd taking on Montreal race
MONTREAL – Perhaps the Nationwide Series race at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve should be sponsored by Geritol. Or AARP.
NASCAR's decision to cut Toyota horsepower unfortunate
NASCAR's decision to cut horsepower from Toyota's Nationwide Series engines in an effort to make all manufacturers equal is unfortunate.
Mid-season NASCAR awards
We’re at the unofficial halfway point of the season, so it’s time to hand out some awards for the three NASCAR national series.
Keselowski took a higher road than Hamlin
CONCORD, N.C. - I wrote a column a couple years ago talking about how mature Denny Hamlin was when he won at Pocono Raceway, especially when veterans like Tony Stewart and Carl Edwards were acting like, well, rookies.
Numbers speak for Kyle Busch's NASCAR success
Kyle Busch is only 22 years old, but already his NASCAR career is breaking records. And there's no telling what numbers he'll post before he’s through.
Gotta love NASCAR
Why do we love this goofy sport? We all could probably list 100 reasons, but a few things happened this week to confirm that it’s the people in NASCAR who make it a great sport.
It's time to send start-and-park teams packing
LEBANON, Tenn. – I wandered out to pit road before the Pepsi 300 Nationwide Series race at Nashville Superspeedway, and I happened to walk in the pit of the No. 91 MSRP Motorsports team.
Precision is key to success
Have you ever accidentally snapped off a key on the keyboard of your laptop computer? And then have you tried to put the key back in the empty hole?
Roush Fenway's actions speak louder than words
I find it only slightly hypocritical that the folks at Roush Fenway Racing made as much noise as a jet engine last weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway – but they didn’t appeal the Carl Edwards’ penalty.
Wouldn't a Petty in victory lane be fitting?
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – No offense to anyone who is a fan of drivers with the last name Earnhardt, but it would be most appropriate for someone other than an Earnhardt to win the 50th Daytona 500.
Kyle Petty.
Cheaters never win
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – I honestly don’t know what to think about all the Nationwide Series violations this week at Daytona International Speedway.
Can't argue with 'Boogity, boogity, boogity'
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Go ahead and make fun of Darrell Waltrip for his exuberance before, during and after waving the green flag for the first Gatorade Duel today. But I loved it.
No runaway battle, please
The championship battle in the Nationwide Series this season could be one of the tightest, closest title fights in series history. It could bring back memories of the 2003 season, where Brian Vickers edged David Green by 14 points as four drivers were eligible for the championship entering the final race.
Change the age limit
If NASCAR indeed ends up changing the minimum age for the Sprint Cup Series to 21, it can only help the health of the Nationwide Series. Almost by default, NASCAR would turn the Nationwide Series into the development series many people think it should be. Cup teams who have teen-agers under contracts need a place for [...]
Just another NASCAR series
ORLANDO, Fla. – The Nextel Cup Awards Banquet has so many activities leading up to it that NASCAR gives it a name – and capital letters: “Champions Week.” And deservedly so, for winning the Nextel Cup title is an impressive accomplishment. NASCAR likes to parade the champion around New York, making sure he’s seen and heard [...]
The 2008 winners are …
I’ve never been accused of being a trendsetter, but I haven’t noticed too many predictions for 2008, so here goes: Sprint Cup champion: Jeff Gordon. He’s ticked off just enough to come back and dominate the Chase For The Sprint Cup just like he dominated the first 26 races of 2007. And you can bet he [...]
Is this a sign?
MADISON, Ill. – The Chicago Cubs will win the World Series this year. What else can one assume after Reed Sorenson’s victory in the Gateway 250 Busch Series race at Gateway International Raceway on Saturday night? Sorenson, you may remember, helped sing “Take Me Out To The Ballgame” last Monday at Wrigley Field – and it’s [...]
Bigger than the Daytona 500
MADISON, Ill. Carl Edwards said his victory last year in the Busch Series race at Gateway International Raceway was as important to him as winning the Daytona 500. Is he nuts? It might seem that way, but you have to understand where Edwards is coming from. And that’s here. Here in the shadow of the Gateway [...]
