Two McMurray fans doing their part to fight autism

FORT WORTH, Texas – Amidst the perpetual roar, there’s a lot of good going on in the NASCAR garage each race weekend.
Here at Texas, two fans of Jamie McMurray and his No. 26 Roush Fenway Racing team are having one to remember.
Dawn Litteken and Chris Dake, both from Springfield, Mo., emerged from the team’s hauler Friday morning with smiles. They could have come from the excitement of just being here, but in all likelihood, the grins grew in knowing they were helping in McMurray’s fight against autism.
Dake and Litteken bid more than $4,200, with the proceeds going to McMurray’s foundation, to win the all-access weekend at Texas.
“I hope it’s worth every penny to them, because all of the money is going to such a great cause,” McMurray said.
That’s a lot of pennies, and hopefully they’ll help do a lot of good for kids and families struggling with the disorder that affects one out of every 150 children.
“We realize the challenges that autism presents, and being able to support a great cause was reason enough to donate the money,” Litteken said.
The current contribution came less than a year after Dake said he bid “probably close to about $8500” to take home most of what McMurray wore in the Dover race last fall.
“Everything but the firesuit. I got outbid on the firesuit,” Dake said.
No firesuit, perhaps, but this time Dake and Litteken will take home some special memories from Texas – and the satisfaction of knowing they did their part to help some folks that will never be able to repay them.
