Is China next for NASCAR?
Apr
16
I’m not sure what’s more surprising, that a guy could do heroin and finish fifth in a Craftsman Truck Series race, or that someone would actually consider racing under the influence of anything stronger than coffee. Even with the safety advancements that have been realized in NASCAR since 2001, this obviously remains a very dangerous business.
But enough about that already – with the Nationwide Series venturing back to Mexico this weekend, there is but one question where future expansion is concerned: When is NASCAR going to race in China?
A little research finds a 3.4-mile track featuring seven left- and right-hand turns in Shanghai that will play host to the F1 China Grand Prix
in October.
Note: I’m NOT suggesting China should get a NASCAR race due to the country’s human rights transgressions, but don’t you just know NASCAR would love to boast another 75 million fans in addition to those it already claims to have. There are more than 1.3 billion folks in China … just think of the growth potential for stock-car racing! Previous visits to Australia and Japan proved that NASCAR’s traveling circus can take its show on the road to far-flung places.
Can a visit to China really be far behind?

Apr 20, 2008 at 12:56 AMWhat's more insulting and cowardly?..... Baiting your audience with the presupposed "controversial" title of your article.....OR.....doing so and THEN!!!!! adding a disclaimer at the end?????!!!!?? You can't have it both ways! Turtle-necks and trendy spectacles are no substitute for a spine.
