Edwards impresses the most at Richmond
Sep
8
Yeah, I know, Carl Edwards finished 13th in the Chevy Rock & Roll 400 at Richmond. But Edwards, after an early flat tire mired him back in the mid-30s of the running order, battled back to 16th. Then a three-car incident involving Bill Elliott and Bobby Labonte pushed him back in the pack again with 84 laps remaining.
On lap 320, he was 31st.
Bear in mind, Edwards had nothing to gain from anything but a win at Richmond. As he said earlier this year, any finish from second on back means little when your Chase berth is already assured.
Still, he hard-charged it all the way to 13th, picking off 18 spots in the final 20 percent of the race.
“I think today was a good example of how our team could work with a little bit of adversity and under pressure. We did a really good job of
coming back from a flat tire and a little wreck there,” Edwards said. “I thought my guys did a really good job, so I’m real excited about starting the Chase. This is going to be really fun. I’m just looking forward to getting rolling on it. I wish we could start that race at New Hampshire tomorrow.”
For good measure, the indefatigable Edwards went out and won his fourth Nationwide Series race of the season to stay within shouting distance of leader Clint Bowyer.
If you had to pick one driver most capable of winning two titles this year, there is only one choice to be made: Carl Edwards.

Sep 9, 2008 at 11:18 AMI totally agree with you. I think Carl Edwards is going to win both championships this year. He never gave up at Richmond and I was impressed to see how he fought back. Most of the predictions that are out are for Jimmie and Kyle- that should give Carl more motivation to win the championship

Sep 13, 2008 at 2:34 PMCarl surely has the tenacity to win. Unfortunately not everything in a race is in his control. But I am a big Edwards fan and sure hope he pulls it off. Jim.
