Possibility of Busch's third straight NASCAR win was overblown
Jul
20
Am I the only one who thought just a bit too much was being made of the fact that Kyle Busch DID NOT win the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Kentucky Speedway Saturday night?
Sure, if Busch had won the event, he would have become the first driver to win Cup, Nationwide and truck series races in successive starts, having swept the Nationwide and Cup races the previous weekend at Chicago.
But the truck race was run a week later. Somehow, that takes some of the shine of the matter.
You want to make history? Win the truck and Nationwide races at O’Reilly Raceway Park this Friday and Saturday, then saunter over to Indianapolis Motor Speedway and capture the Allstate 400 on Sunday. Now that would be impressive.
• NASCAR, it’s everywhere: Anyone who has been to the movies recently may have seen the preview to an upcoming flick called “Death Race.” According to the trailer, the lead character “used to race for NASCAR.”
From the looks of the preview, the lucky dog award isn’t part of the script.
• Dale Earnhardt Jr. hat not included: Unfortunately, this story is all too real. NASCAR fans collect souvenirs for a variety of reasons. Until now, though, I don’t know that anyone has allegedly attempted to use his or her collectibles as payment in a murder-for-hire scheme – www.post-gazette.com/pg/08201/898079-455.stm.
• Davis Love III finished tied for 19th in the British Open. I only mention that because less than a week ago, Love was taking part in the Chick-fil-A Charity Ride established by Kyle Petty. Love completed the initial stages of the ride before departing for Royal Birkdale in Southport, England.

Jul 21, 2008 at 10:11 AMThe media hype about KB trying to make history makes me want to puke. Let's inflate the kids head some more. I for one am happy he did not win. Any more, I just mute the TV because I am sick to death about listening to the media gush about this kid. Yeah he is a good driver in good equipment. Enough said. Let's not forget the other 43+ drivers out there that deserve media coverage too. It's a shame the sport has become about one driver.
