My niece, Hailey, is 3 years old and never slows down.She is a wide-open, foot-to-the-floor, furniture-crashing ball of energy. You hide the fine china when Hailey comes to visit.
She’s also a budding NASCAR fan.
During a birthday party for my 90-year-old grandpa Sunday, we were watching the race at Atlanta when Hailey came flying into the living room, hopped up on the couch and yelled: “Pour it to it, Dale Jr.!”
Her dad, Tim, a longtime Earnhardt fan, couldn’t have been prouder. He’s obviously taught her well.
Though she’s too young to fully comprehend it, Hailey spoke volumes for Earnhardt Jr. fans everywhere.
All of Junior Nation eagerly awaits his first win since 2006.Why do you think TV ratings are suddenly up?
It’s because Earnhardt Jr., NASCAR’s most popular driver, is suddenly a contender again. He’s racing at the front and challenging for wins and a spot in the championship Chase.
That’s got the sport’s largest fan base fired up and tuned in. Junior mania is driving TV ratings, souvenir sales, Web hits and interest in nearly every facet of NASCAR.
When will his first win with his new Hendrick Motorsports team come? This weekend at Bristol?
His fans, and the sport, anxiously await.
