Lia's surprising truck win can only be good for series

May 24
Donny Lia won the Craftsman Truck Series race at Mansfield today, and that's pretty darn cool.

Why?

Because first of all, you've probably never heard of him. Lia was driving just his eighth career truck race, and had only finished in the top 10 once before.

In fact, he'd never led a lap in the series – until leading the one that counted the most at Mansfield.

Lia won NASCAR's Whelen Modified Tour last year, and the 27-year-old has shown plenty of promise for a future in NASCAR. Now, he's the first rookie to win a race in the truck series in five years.

Certainly, no one expected him to break through with a victory so early.

The fact that he did is good for the series. NASCAR is at its best when new and exciting drivers are making their way into victory lane. And surprises like Lia (and David Gilliland a few years ago) can only generate more interest.
