Kyle Busch is the real deal
Jul
15
I’m convinced now.
Kyle Busch isn’t just a beneficiary of top-notch equipment.
He is a driving machine.
Sure, Busch isn’t exactly hurting when it comes to horsepower and good-handling cars. Joe Gibbs Racing provides the best of both to all of its drivers on a weekly basis.
But after Busch outsmarted and outdrove Jimmie Johnson – who history reveals rarely gets the short end of the stick in late-race battles for the win - in a two-lap dash Saturday night at Chicagoland Speedway, I believe Busch might be the best pure talent in the Sprint Cup Series.
Others have thought this for some time now, but I’ll admit it took me a little longer to jump on board the Busch bandwagon. I think what finally convinced me was the manner in which Busch has won his last two races.
At Daytona, he muscled past restrictor-plate king Jeff Gordon in the closing laps and then fended off a determined Carl Edwards.
Saturday at Chicagoland, he beat the two-time defending Cup champion with a bold, yet perfectly-executed move to the outside of turns 1 and 2 on the penultimate lap.
You can argue that some of Busch’s earlier wins this season were more a result of machine than man.
When a driver sprints away from the field seemingly at will and takes the checkered flag by a football field over his closest pursuer, that’s the sign of a superior car.
When a car is methodically maneuvered to the front when checkers and a trophy are on the line, that’s the sign of a great driver.
That’s Kyle Busch.

Jul 15, 2008 at 10:14 AMWow, I seriously underestimated your obstinate pride. Just two short months ago.... Jared Turner was on the record bashing Kyle Busch and going so far as to say he is "BAD FOR THE SPORT". Figured it would be AT LEAST another month before these types of articles popped up. I'm actually sad though because it probably won't be as fun to watch KB dominate with out as many pessimistic naysayers trying to downplay his achievements. Oh well.

Jul 18, 2008 at 11:07 AMI am not a Kyle Busch fan but I think he will win 14 races this year and break the record. While I think it is way to early to compare shrub to the Intimidator as some have done that move he made to win at Chicagoland sure reminded me of someone else behind the wheel.
