For once, Cup drivers aren't a detriment to Nationwide Series
May

CONCORD, N.C. – As much as it's easy to gripe about the manner in which Sprint Cup drivers have made the Nationwide Series their personal playground, tonight's Carquest Auto Parts 300 at Lowe's Motor Speedway is different.
Sure, there's an even higher number of Cup drivers on the race entry list than usual. For once though, I'm not so sure such participation is altogether detrimental.
Cup participants in tonight's race who are not running the full schedule include Dale Earnhardt Jr., Jimmie Johnson, Denny Hamlin, Greg Biffle, Jeff Burton, Kasey Kahne, Kevin Harvick and Sam Hornish Jr.
These are some of NASCAR's biggest stars.
And, wait. Did I say Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Kasey Kahne?
Yes.
Two of NASCAR's most popular drivers will be making Nationwide Series starts tonight.
On an evening when some fans might be tempted to stay home because of soaring gas prices or the hassle of fighting traffic, drivers such as Earnhardt and Kahne make the effort of buying a ticket all worth it for many racing enthusiasts.
So while I'm still a critic of the way in which Cup drivers have made Nationwide events their Sunday tune-ups, this time I'm making an exception - because the benefit outweighs the bad.

May 28, 2008 at 5:56 PMI think the driver of the 88 car might disagree. But then again Brad doesn't have any cup experience so he shouldn't be in the Nationwide series....... huh???
