Come on, NASCAR: Give your folks a real "off" weekend

NASCAR is a great sport. Fact is, it wouldn’t hurt my feelings if the season went year-round.
But is it really necessary to hold races on Easter weekend, Mother’s Day weekend and Father’s Day as at least one of NASCAR's three national series is on each occasion this season?
After an arguably crazier-than-usual start to 2008, it’s about time the Cup series got a well-deserved break. Kudos to NASCAR for making it happen this Easter weekend.
But what about the Cup drivers, PR reps and media members who are at Nashville Superspeedway for a Nationwide Series race today?
Some of these hard-working folks haven’t come up for air since before preseason testing commenced at Daytona in early January.
Easter weekend, one of only three open dates for the Cup series between early February and late-November, should be reserved for church, family and friends.
The next open weekend for NASCAR’s top series in mid-May happens to also coincide with a Nationwide race weekend. That one's in Mexico City.
Same goes for the third and final off weekend of the campaign in July – there’s a Nationwide Series race at Gateway International Raceway in Madison, Ill.
Personally, I like Jeff Burton’s idea of having the Cup series race five weekends on, one weekend off, throughout the season. That won't happen any time soon but it's at least nice to ponder.
Just don’t schedule a Nationwide race every sixth weekend if the Cup series ever implements Burton's plan.
Even the president gets a break every once in awhile.
