Where was the big one?

Feb 20
I was jumping up and down the final laps of the 50th running of the Daytona 500. I love to see a close race and an unanticipated winner. It wasn’t until after the fact that I realized we were missing the “big one” – the typical accident that takes out half the field of a restrictor- plate race.

What a disappointing finish it would have been if the field had been frozen before Ryan Newman’s Dodge had crossed the start/finish line with a little push from his teammate.

Yes, there were several cautions durations the last 15 laps of the race, but those wrecks involved only a few cars at a time. Not ending under a green/white/checker finish was refreshing and, not to mention, awesome racing to watch.

After all, who likes to support their team for 198 laps only to see them get caught up in a train wreck they had zero chance to avoid?  Was it the drivers, the new car, or just plain luck that we missed seeing the carnage of the big one?

I don’t know but I certainly didn’t miss it.

It's really a sad commentary that we're glad to see a race NOT end under a green/ white/checker. Does anyone remember when we last saw an actual race with real competition at the end? Oops - they're giving us a chance to see them, just look at the "remember when's" that they're trotting out. Or come by our home in Texas on Sundays at 12:15 p.m. where we're showing "real" races from days gone by on Sunday instead of what they're giving now. Why someone even cussed on Sunday, and ya' know what? It was WONDERFUL and nobody was offended!
