Sarah Palin, a NASCAR fan?
Sep
3
As soon as the news broke that Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin had been selected to receive the Republican vice presidential nomination, I received several emails asking me if I knew her to be a NASCAR fan. Two of her children have names that we gear-heads assume are related to motorsports - Track and Bristol.
Despite my status as an Alaska resident and the fact that I do enjoy a nice halibut, I’m sorry to say that I have no clue if Palin is a NASCAR fan. I will point out, though, that both the names Bristol and Track that could indicate a love of stock-car racing could also be favored names given by those who plug their vehicles into electrical outlets for six months out of the year.
Hear Bristol, and we think Tennessee short track. I’m thinking Alaskan waters as in Bristol Bay. Track, well maybe that’s not a reference to circular paved bankings and straightaways but rather the method in which you find and shoot a bear on Kodiak Island.
Bristol and Track are equally representative of both Alaska and NASCAR, but as for Palin’s reasons for naming her kids, I can only speculate.

Sep 4, 2008 at 4:01 AMAgrees with Eric Ward . . . cheap shot. Even Barrack Obama says kids and family are off limits. Real things happen in real families. We can't all be perfect and neither can our children. Frankly I find her a woman of fortitude and a breath of fresh air for this country. A military mother is someone who we really need looking out for our Troops overseas, her son leaves for Iraq on 9/11. AND . . . I'd go hunting or fishing with her any day.

Sep 4, 2008 at 6:06 AMI don't think it would be beneath her to show up at a Nascar race. After all a lot of us are small town people who 'cling to our religion and guns' and that's where she came from too. I'd much rather hang out with her at the track than any of the other candidates.

Sep 4, 2008 at 8:27 AMHer family should be off limits. Because her 17 daughter is pregant gives people the right to rag on her. I think not. I got pegant at the age of 15 it was not my choice. Read between the lines and you will know why and what happened to me. That does not make me a bad person nor does it her daughter. Thing happen in life you need to go with the flow. i think she is a great lady.

Sep 7, 2008 at 4:27 PMMrs. McCain owned a racing team last I knew. If Palin is in fact a NASCAR fan she will have more of my support than she already has. (If this is possible.) Palin already has my vote. Teen pregnancy is on the rise in America, she can relate to you. He son has down sydorome, she can relate to you. She ACTUALLY IS your average person who has to pay the bills and buy fuel and insurance, she can relate to you. Her family isn't perfect, she can relate to you. And that is why the attacks on Palin help her case. I for one will be voting for Gov. Palin NASCAR fan or not. (Although it would be cool!)

Sep 8, 2008 at 5:52 PMI am awed by Gov. Palin and am not surprised at what the competition is saying about her and trying to slander her. She is certainly a change this country needs. If she is not a NASCAR fan, she is a quick study and can become one. Don't forget about Cindy McCain visiting a NASCAR race recently. She helped her son work on cars and has done many wonderful humanitarian things. She and Palin will make a great duo!!!
