Rain delay

Feb 26
Rain delays are part of NASCAR. As a fan, I expect a few every season.

But with my rear end planted on my warm, cozy couch, I think about the fans who were wet, miserable and frustrated waiting it out in the grandstands at Auto Club Speedway for Sunday’s Auto Club 500.

When the race was called for Monday, I just changed the channel and set the DVR. My investment of time ended there.

Fans at the race in California, however, still had to get home, drip dry and recoup from a long checkered-flaglessday at the track.

Monday I worked and wasn’t able to watch the broadcast live when Carl Edwards ended the marathon in Victory Lane. Later, I watched the recap and wondered how many soaked fans sat patiently at the track the day before knowing they would most likely watch the checkered flag wave on a sports highlight show instead of in person?

How amazingly irritating. Yes, rain delays are a part of NASCAR, but they're not the fun part.
