NASCAR crisis averted

Mar 14
Heading out for a weekend clear across the state by myself with the kids means I’d better have my act together before I walk out the door.

As I pulled away in my car with a full tank of gas, I mentally went through my list: bathing suits packed, check; doors locked, check; picked drivers for fantasy league, check.

Four hours into my seven-hour trip, I remembered what I’d forgotten to do: set TiVo for Bristol race, oops.

In the hustle of getting out the door, I’d completely overlooked the simple task of selecting record. And the fact it’s going to be DJ’s final race - oh, my stomach sank.

For the final three hours it took to get to our hotel, I beat myself up for not setting our DVR to automatically record every race. The control freak in me likes to manually set the recorder one race at a time. After this blunder I’d better let go of that little hang up.

Upon arriving to our destination, I remembered a friend with a spare key to the house. I called her to set my DVR, I called her to confirm that she did it, and I’ll probably call during the race to have her check to make sure it’s recording.

This time NASCAR crisis averted, check.
