McDowell's scary wreck opens eyes
Apr
10
I had no less than five different emails in my inbox with video replay of Michael McDowell’s wreck.
Having missed qualifying on television, I was grateful to see the footage with my own eyes. It was one of those NASCAR crashes which left me holding my breath and biting my lip. It was truly a spectacular site. But, not the good kind of spectacular, the really frightening kind.
Unfortunately, it often takes this kind of crash to serve as a sobering reminder of the danger drivers’ subject themselves to every time they push the accelerator to the floor. It is this risk drivers are willing to take and I again have grown lacks in my appreciation of.
I felt a great sense of relief in seeing McDowell exit what was left of the Aaron’s 00. Not only did the crash put the danger of NASCAR back into focus but it also illustrated how amazing the racing safety technology has become.
I have always been a fan of the SAFER barriers, but McDowell’s wreck has been instrumental in boosting my opinion of the car of tomorrow.

Apr 11, 2008 at 10:29 PMOutstanding work! It took you NO LESS than 6 days to regurgitate what everybody had ALREADY said within 15 minutes of the incident. Good luck with your blog.

Apr 14, 2008 at 3:57 PMThe fact that a driver walked away after a crash like that is amazing. Something like that, you can't put a time limit on talking about. You rock Carolyn - great blogs and love the articles!
