'Junior Nation' making switch to No. 88

Mar 1
I sat at a traffic light behind a huge shiny pick-up truck. In a quick glance, I noticed the number 88 on the back window. It was the new stylized 88 with a green boarder … clearly, Junior’s new digits.

Straining my memory, I was fairly sure this was the first vehicle I had seen in our small town with anything reflecting Junior’s move to Hendrick. Later that same day, I saw another car with two old number 8 stickers placed side by side. It appears “Junior Nation” has  quickly embraced the move that seemed mind-blowing when it was first announced.

I have mental snapshots of standing in the infield at the track and looking up at a sea of red. If it hasn’t happened already, how long will it take for the grandstands to now turn green?

Junior’s new color scheme is certainly more “subdued” than before and many have complained his current car is hard to pick out in the field of 43. But red or green, 8 or 88, it doesn’t matter. With fans gobbling up tons of new Junior merchandise each weekend, there will be nothing “subdued” about the fan support for NASCAR’s most popular driver.

yes there are many people still cheering for Dale, it won't take long for the stands to turn greeen. My question is how many will still wear the old red colors just because they arn't sure what to do with the old stuff. After all what else are you going to do with all the old shirts, hats and jackets, but use them them as intended.

Remember the funny commercial a couple of years ago when Jr. announced he was changing his number to 3.2? I guess 88 is better for the fans - its easier to change your tattoo from 8 to 88. Welcome to a real team, Junior.

When I wear my RED 8, there won't be a question about who my driver is. I carry my Jr Icechest, my Jr. hat is on my head, ect. I too do not do green.
