A glimmer of hope in the fines department
Mar
10
Fines and suspensions seem to happen more frequently than pit stops in the world of NASCAR.
Whether you buy into the conspiracy theory or not, the perception by many fans is that penalties imposed by the governing body are unfair and inconsistent at best. True or untrue, perception, as they say, is everything.
But finally… a glimmer of hope. The mere fact an appeals committee rescinded Robby Gordon’s points deduction left many fans slapping high fives. Even with the increase in the monetary fines, it was a victory for the little guy (single-car team) against the heavy authoritative hand of NASCAR.
Just as in most circumstances, there was more to the case than just an unapproved part. The difference was in the details.
There is no black and white in NASCAR. Everything seems to run in shades of gray, and it is in this variation of imposing penalties that we fans feel frustrated. The simple fact that a decision was overturned through an appeal goes a far way with the fans, even if there is still a long way to go.
