Kurt Busch needs to get season going
May
27
LONG POND, Pa. – For Kurt Busch, it’s time to make a move if he even wants to think about making the Chase For The NASCAR Sprint Cup this year.
He compared his current status to that of last year when he was docked 100 points for endangering a crew member on pit road at Dover and entered Pocono at 17th in points, 88 points out of the Chase.
But this is a much more difficult task. He is 21st in points and 262 points out of Chase contention entering the race this weekend at Dover.
He doesn’t need to get on a roll of consistent finishes, he needs to get on a tear of top-5s over the next 12 races.
Busch and Penske are always a threat but that’s a pretty big hill to climb even if his team can blame bad luck for bad finishes over the
first 12 races.
He says his team won’t try anything radical and they will just keep trying to get better. If that’s true, then they shouldn’t get frustrated if they don’t make the Chase. Just getting better and contending for wins by the end of the year would be a reasonable goal considering the way the first 12 races of the year has gone for Busch.
