Drivers should have freedom to show their personalities

May 31
DOVER, Del. – NASCAR said it would allow drivers to show their personalities this year. That’s a good thing for Scott Speed, who doesn’t know how to live without showing his personality.

Now a guy who admits to having a pedicure and painting his toes the day before he wins a race might not be exactly what NASCAR had in mind when it talked about going back to the basics earlier this year.

Granted, this isn’t your old-school NASCAR type of guy.

But if you want a rough-and-tumble guy like Ron Hornaday then you need the anti-Hornaday of Speed as well. Who cares if he dresses like K-Fed? As long as he drives the wheel off a car or truck, let’s let him be Scott Speed.

Personalities are what make this sport. All of them. Here’s to hoping that Friday wasn’t the last time people saw a guy sit on top of his
truck with a pensive pose and the checkered flag.
