Things I wonder …
Things I wonder, as the NASCAR heads into the Southern 500 weekend (sorry, old habits die hard):
No MIStake on traffic now
Having been to Michigan International Speedway nine times in the past 10 years, I can say this without hesitation: Traffic there is no longer a problem.
Don’t forget about Johnson
Kyle Busch will obviously enter the Chase For The NASCAR Sprint Cup as the heavy favorite.
Brickyard race not a big deal for this fan
This may sound crazy, even sacrilegious, but today's Sprint Cup race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway doesn't get my motor firing on all cylinders
History in the making
There's an old saying in sports that there is no cheering in the press box. Who wants to read a news story, or watch a TV report, provided by a reporter who is cheering for a particular driver?
Meetings or not, complaining could persist with new car
NASCAR's new-generation car, introduced last year on a limited basis, and now in use at every track this season, has not been popular with drivers.
Some items to ponder heading into the Coca-Cola 600
Things I wonder as NASCAR begins its longest day of the year heading into the Coca-Cola 600:
Welcome NASCAR’s newest team owner
I finally did it. I am now a NASCAR Sprint Cup team owner.
Montoya has learned his lessons
I predicted Juan Pablo Montoya would make the Chase last year, in his rookie season. I was wrong.
Racing and baseball
The 2008 Major League Baseball season gets under way this week, and not for the first time, I marvel at the amazing similarities between NASCAR and baseball.
Earnhardt Jr., Hendrick to shine at Martinsville
Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s victory this weekend at Martinsville will put to rest all the naysayers worried about Hendrick Motorsports.
Jeff Burton, hall of famer
Jeff Burton has a spot waiting for him in the NASCAR Hall of Fame.
Gordon decision sets odd precedent
Robby Gordon “Dodged” a bullet yesterday, as the National Stock Car Racing Commission overturned a NASCAR penalty of 100 points assessed against Gordon when an unapproved nose was found on his car prior to qualifying at Daytona.
Oh, say can you see
It's the image that NASCAR fans are raving about from the Budweiser Shootout weekend.
I wonder …
As I sit here, waiting for the season to start, here are some things I wonder: • Where did they find the security guard involved in the alleged altercation with Kasey Kahne at Homestead-Miami Speedway? How is it possible that this guy, who was guarding the drivers’ motorhome compound, somehow did not recognize one of NASCAR’s [...]
Pats are NFL’s Hendrick Motorsports
Today, the National Football League begins its version of NASCAR’s Chase For The Sprint Cup. Like many other sports leagues, the NFL, oddly enough, calls their postseason action “playoffs.” Playing the role of juggernaut Hendrick Motorsports in the NFL playoffs are the New England Patriots, who posted the first undefeated regular season since 1972. Jeff [...]
Yes, Junior, there is a Santa Claus
A few days before Christmas, as our family sat around the dinner table, my 7-year-old daughter dropped a bombshell. “Somebody at school told me that there isn’t REALLY a Santa Claus,” my daughter said. “He said that when kids write a letter to Santa, their parents take it, and they just buy the stuff that’s in [...]
Hendrick shows generous side
Team owner Rick Hendrick is often vilified by NASCAR fans for various reasons. I think some fans are just tired of his teams winning all the time. With seven NASCAR Cup championships in the last 13 years, Hendrick Motorsports is NASCAR’s version of the New York Yankees during their heyday. You either love them, or [...]
