Second truck race added at Kentucky, will make for tripleheader weekend in July
The inaugural Sprint Cup race weekend at Kentucky will be a tripleheader weekend as a Camping World Truck Series race was added for Thursday, July 7.
The Nationwide Series will run the next night, July 8, and then the Sprint Cup Series will make its debut at the track Saturday, July 9.
The tripleheader weekend is one of nine on the NASCAR schedule, not including Indianapolis, where all three series will run in the same weekend but at two different tracks.
“This will be a great addition to the inaugural Sprint Cup Series race weekend, adding to what will already be a tremendous three nights of racing for the fans.” NASCAR Senior Vice President Steve O’Donnell said in a news release.
The race will be in addition to the truck event already scheduled for Oct. 1 at the 1.5-mile oval in Sparta, Ky.
The second Kentucky race gives the Truck Series a 25-race schedule. NASCAR was left with an open date in the Truck Series schedule with the closing of the Gateway International Raceway oval.
