Johnny Benson among those landing Truck rides for Daytona

Johnny Benson, the 2008 NASCAR Truck series champion, and Sean Murphy have landed rides for the season-opening Camping World Truck Series race Feb. 12 at Daytona International Speedway.

Benson will drive for Team Gill Racing, which will field the No. 95 Ford. Rookie Lance Fenton is scheduled to run at least seven Truck races with the team, but Benson will be in the seat for the start of the season.

“We really needed to start this year out right,” said team owner Danny Gill. “We wanted to show up and let everyone know that Team Gill Racing is bringing a lot to the table every weekend. We have a lot of really good things working in our favor right now.”

Kyle Busch Motorsports has been trying to find sponsorship for Benson. After Feb. 12, the trucks don’t race again until March 6.

Murphy, who has 25 career starts in the series, will drive for SS Green Light Racing, the team for which he has his best NASCAR finish – a ninth at Mansfield in 2008.

Glad Benson got a ride. Still hoping to see him drive for KBM this year.

If it has a motor and 4 wheels, this man will drive up front. Great to see him back in the series. I wish that sponsors had some sense in them to support a man who has proven himself many times over instead of a young guy who looks good in front of a camera.

This is good news. I didn't think he'd crawl back in a truck again.

I love JB. He's one of the few that won't take you out for the win. He wins fair and square. A great racer. I can't believe he's having so much trouble getting sponsorship. He's a great racer.

Glad to see JB might have a ride, even if it is driving for Kyle. Red Horse Racing screwed him over royally last year.

What happened to your commitment to KBM?

What commitment to KBM? They couldn't get him a ride so he went elsewhere for Daytona. It's not like he has a contract to drive for KBM.

But truth is, he won't last if he's not driving for KBM. If he goes on a sponsorship hunt himself, maybe he could find a ride with BBM, MRD, or any other competitive truck team with an opening. I don't understand why more ride-less drivers don't go looking for sponsors on their own? It sounds like most of them are just sitting back, waiting for something to happen.

14 Johnny said he was committed to KBM so shut it.
