AVONDALE, Ariz. - Joe Gibbs Racing's J.J. Yeley was ninth in the 100-lap Silver Crown feature in the United States Auto Club's 32nd Copper World Classic on Thursday night at Phoenix International Raceway.
Braun Racing's Jason Leffler was 19th in the same race on a night that saw a number of NASCAR regulars and development drivers trying their hand in the open-wheel events.
Penske Racing development driver Billy Wease was 15th and Bill Davis Racing development driver Michael Annett was 16th. Former Craftsman Truck Series driver Tyler Walker was 18th. The race was won by Cameron Dodson, who has four truck series starts to his credit.
In the 25-lap Midget race, Brewco Motorsports driver Bobby East was fourth, Yeley was 11th, Leffler was 12th, and Penske's Ryan Newman was 34th. BDR development driver Bobby Santos was second, Wease was fifth, Michael Waltrip Racing development driver Josh Wise was seventh, Ford Racing development driver Stephanie Mockler was 10th, Roush Fenway Racing development driver Ricky Stenhouse was 13th, Chip Ganassi Racing development driver Byran Clauson was 25th, Dodson was 26th, Walker was 27th and former truck series driver Tracy Hines was 35th. The race was won by Dave Steele, who competed in two Busch Series events in 2000.
