DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - J.J. Yeley debuted with his new team and new car today at Daytona International Speedway.

Yeley replaced Tony Raines as driver of the No. 96 Hall of Fame Racing Toyota in the offseason. The team is making its first appearance with the manufacturer.

The driver seemed pleased with the car's progress.

"The first session was good for us," he said. "We're pretty happy with how things went. We were playing with some things during the first session, but so far, I'm real impressed with the Toyota engine and the car here at Daytona."

Yeley said that the team was trying different packages with the new car and changing things around trying to get a handle on NASCAR's new model, which is being tested at the 2.5-mile Daytona track for the first time and which will be used in all races this year.

"We're playing with a lot of different packages with the new car," Yeley said. "We just changed where the car was real low, like at Talladega, but the car really moves around a bit. Daytona is always exciting, and it's more of a mile-and-a-half race track in that tires are a big issue and getting the car to handle is very important here. I think we can do some things to find some speed, but we definitely want to get a good handling car."
