Wyler, South Point teams cancel plans to merge
The merger between the Wyler Racing and South Point Racing Craftsman Truck Series teams is off, and South Point will close, a spokesperson for South Point confirmed Wednesday.
The merger was announced in late October, with the new team to be called Wyler-Gaughan Racing. Wyler-Gaughan was to be located in the Charlotte, N.C., as South Point Racing, owned by Brendan Gaughan's father, Michael, was to move from Las Vegas.
Gaughan was to drive the No. 77 Toyota for the team, but the spokesperson said he is now exploring other rides for 2008. The team was to also field a No. 60 Toyota, though a driver had yet to be named.
A spokesperson for Wyler Racing said the team would return in 2008. Wyler fielded the No. 60 Toyota for Jack Sprague this season, though Sprague has moved to Kevin Harvick's Chevrolet team for next season.
