Ward Burton hopes to qualify for his second Nextel Cup race of the season Friday at Texas Motor Speedway, again driving Morgan-McClure Motorsports' No. 4 Chevrolet.
The car sits outside the top 35 in owner points and will have to qualify on speed since the current entry list shows 51 cars.
"Texas is a challenging race track, especially with the current rules and tires. We have to work on getting the right setup in the car for qualifying," Burton says. "Our main race is on Friday when we have to qualify.
"I think Chris [Carrier, the team's crew chief] learned some things from Atlanta [where Todd Bodine made the field for Morgan-McClure in qualifying], and I've qualified well there in the past.
"We will go there and try to do the same thing. Once we are qualified, we can focus on our 'second' race on Sunday. I know we are all going to work hard to make this a good weekend for Lucas Oil and Morgan-McClure, well for all of us."
Burton has made eight starts at Texas, where his best finish was a seventh in 1997. His best qualifying effort at the 1.5-mile facility was third in 1998.
