SONOMA, Calif. - Brian Vickers held off Boris Said to win the Blue Lizard Australian Suncream 200 NASCAR AutoZone West Series race Saturday afternoon at Infineon Raceway.
Vickers, whose No. 25 Hendrick Motorsports crew set up and crewed the car, drove a No. 17 car with a GMAC paint scheme run by the late Ricky Hendrick in the Busch Series.
Running the race to gain more road-course experience, Vickers sat on the pole and led 61 of the 64 laps.
Said had to start from the back because of an engine change and worked his way to second. NASCAR West rookie Brian Ickler finished third and was the best series regular.
Ken Schrader also competed in the race but was penalized for being too fast on pit road and finished 18th.
