According to Michigan International Speedway, a study has found that the track generated more economic impact on the area than the 2006 Super Bowl.

The study, conducted by economist Gary Wolfram, said MIS's events generate more than $400 million in total economic impact, with more than $260 million in "direct economic impact," according to a news release from the track.

The 2006 Super Bowl in Detroit generated an estimated $302 million, according to a study commissioned by the Detroit Super Bowl Host Committee.

"It was huge news when the Super Bowl came to Detroit," Wolfram said in a news release. "But this study shows that MIS' economic impact on Michigan's economy is like having a Super Bowl every single year. In fact, it's even greater.

"MIS thus serves as the equivalent of a venue similar to Disneyland in that, in effect, is an export industry where out-of-state and out-of-region residents purchase sports entertainment services from a Michigan producer."
