Roush driver Darnell staying in truck series

Erik Darnell is remaining in the Craftsman Truck Series for Roush Racing full time in 2007.

Friday morning, Roush Racing President Geoff Smith said that Darnell would get another year in the truck series under his belt before possibly moving up to another full-time role in another NASCAR series. Darnell, driver of the No. 99 truck, had been listed as one of Roush's candidates for the No. 6 Nextel Cup car in 2007. Smith said he may compete in the Busch Series, sharing a ride with a Cup driver for a limited schedule, but that Darnell's main focus will be racing for the truck championship.

Roush also announced that Northern Tool and Equipment has signed a multiyear agreement to sponsor Darnell and the team. The company, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this season as a retailer of light industrial tools and equipment, will also sponsor the Roush team for five of the six remaining races this season.

Financial terms of the contract were not disclosed.
