DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Robby Gordon will have to settle for the high banks of Daytona International Speedway instead of the terrain of the Dakar Rally next week.
With the Dakar Rally, which was scheduled to begin Saturday, having been canceled, Gordon will participate in the Sprint Cup test session Monday through Wednesday.
Gordon had planned to have Brendan Gaughan test for him.
The Cup test sessions are split into two groups, with the first going Monday to Wednesday and the next group going Jan. 14-16.
Among other late additions/changes to the first-session test lineup is Scott Wimmer, who will test a fourth Richard Childress Racing car. It has not been decided whether Wimmer will attempt the Daytona 500 in the No. 33 car.
Scott Riggs was originally scheduled to test in the first session in the Haas CNC Racing No. 70, but pending a sponsorship deal being finalized, the No. 70 will be driven by Jeremy Mayfield in the first session. Riggs will replace Mayfield in the No. 66 in the second session, according to a team official.
Mark Martin will test the No. 8 Dale Earnhardt Inc. car. Martin will compete in the Daytona 500, but Aric Almirola, who will drive in the races that Martin doesn't participate, also will be at the track and could get in the car.
Two-time defending Cup champion Jimmie Johnson headlines the list of drivers for the first session. he will be joined by Hendrick Motorsports teammates Casey Mears and Jeff Gordon.
